max’s novel: part I

max's fiction part one

Hi guys, I’ve been writing my fan fiction novel most afternoons after school when I’m not playing Yu-Gi-Oh cards with my brother, and also sometimes on the weekend. I got the idea to write it because I was inspired by the Harry Potter series and thought there could be a lot more to the wizarding world — so I decided to make it for myself. I can’t wait to share it with you — here is part one of chapter one.

PART 1
INTRODUCING MR FINCH WHOOTINGWORTH

“Excuse me Seamus.”
I looked up from the book I was holding, it was Mr. Finch Whootingworth, he was the school librarian. He was a very short figure, with two big eyes (that were almost bigger then his head), spectacles that were just as big as his eyes and a short stubby nose that hooked at the end. He had brown robes that trailed down to his waist and frilled at the end. He always had his hands drawn behind his back and his feet looked as though they were yellow talons.
Mr Finch Whootingworth looked rather like an owl.
“May I borrow that book?” he asked.
“Well I’m afraid I’m not supposed to lend it to you, it’s a Dark Arts book and only the professors can use it.”
“Well. May I look at the title?”
“I guess that won’t hurt,” I said reluctantly. I shut the book and turned it over. The title said, One Hundred And Ninety Six Dark Arts Legends: From The Light Into The Dark by Professor Vindicates Viridian.
Finch nodded.“Well, what a pity,” he muttered as he flew out the door.

“Ahem!” I looked to my left, it was the Time Table. The Time Table was a short bedside table with a small clock on top. It had a large frown spread across its face and was looking VERY GRUMPY.
“Sir, you will need to go to platform nine and two-quarters to pick up the newbies.”
“Is it time already?”
The Time Table made a very severe face.
“Alright,” I said as I rolled my eyes.
“And take this.” The Time Table passed a rather old-looking scroll and put it on the desk in front of me. It was a time table to help me remember what and when to do something. I got up, straightened my robes and rolled up the scroll.
I decided to make sure all was prepped and ready for the upcoming school year.

TO BE CONT.

I haven’t decided what to call my novel yet so I’d love to know what you think, let me know in the comments!

Signing off for now – Max

Let’s Hang Out

  • ‘everything in the world comes down to time in the end. happiness is a time you’re looking forward to, or time you look back on. it’s all about time passing.’
#annetyler

i was chatting with my grown-up son the other day and we were agreeing that right now, sometimes it feels like time has just... stopped. i have a lot of space to just be. sometimes i find myself reliving happy moments in my mind.

it’s interesting the things that come back to you. the clarity that perspective brings. the narrowing down, and the sifting through. what rises to the surface, when the noise falls away.

this one and her brother couldn’t be loving #stayhome life more. they’ve entertained each other and us (including writing, directing and performing a post-apocalyptic themed play), they’ve embraced having their dad and i take turns teaching them (they made up their own anthem for homeschool), and while they’ve spent more than their fair share of iso school hols on screens, basically,
during these strange and trying times, they’ve been, and are, a joy and a delight ✨
here i tried to take a portrait of rose and she turned the camera on me. because that’s what your children will do, right?
  • a couple of weeks ago i tried to fathom the current state of things as a whole. mistake. being newly single and separated from the little kids for part of the week adds another layer to things. this is just my deal right now. everyone has their own stuff going on. it’s a lot.
never have i ever spent so much time in public parks and gardens. i think we all have a greater appreciation of the world that isn’t human right now. the other day, apropos of nothing, rose said to me: i love nature. and i feel like humans just build things and wreck everything. they don’t care about nature unless it helps them.
max started telling her how she could help (regeneration programs) i started talking about voting.
but mostly i hugged her, and said yeah, that’s true. cause humans. sheesh.

comparatively speaking, we’re doing okay here. but i share this now, cause when i read of other’s struggles, for a moment i feel less alone. maybe hearing mine will do that for you too 🤍
