I love an old love. I love re-reading books I’ve loved, returning to places I once loved, even my life partner is the first boy I ever loved: when we were in our late twenties we returned to each other after many years apart.
If you happened to read blogs between 2010 and 2015, you may have come across my old blog, baby space. It started off being about interiors for kids, and ended up being about parenting. Kids of the South is about fashion for kids. But I’ve learnt from last time that there will be a whole bunch of parenting thrown in, because that’s what’s going on for me these days, as well as posts by Max and Rose. This is a family project and the kids and I are super excited to be making it together.
2017 was actually great even though it didn’t feel like it most of the time
When I started planning Kids of the South I really wanted to include the photos we took on arguably the best day of last year, which was that day in November when it was announced that the majority of Australians who voted in the Marriage Equality survey, voted ‘yes’. While the weird postal survey was running, Max made a video for me to share, asking people to vote yes for love. Quietly I was worried it was going to be another Trump/Brexit disappointment, so on that day I got to be pleasantly surprised and Max got to cheer. We took these photos. The kids agreed it was a historic moment. They named their outfits! Max called his marriage equality look, ‘Party In Newtown’. Rose called her look ‘Go, Go, Go’. Haha. Where do they come up with these things? After that day I started to think that it’s entirely possible that things are improving, that 2017 may actually have been the best year in human history.
How much better will 2018 be? I can’t wait to see.
